WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 10th December, 2018) China will present the biggest challenge to the United States over the next quarter-century, Secretary of State Michael Pompeo said in an interview on Monday.

"China presents the greatest challenge that the United States will face in the medium to long-term," Pompeo said in an interview with the Hugh Hewitt Show.

Pompeo said the challenge would persist over the next 5 to 25 years due to demographics, wealth and the internal system of the country.

The top US diplomat added that China was pursuing "very aggressive" policies and accused the country of failing to comply with its international obligations. In particular, he said, Beijing has promised to avoid militarization of the South China Sea, but has not followed up on this pledge.
